Occasion Pieces -- Yay or Nay?

I am not a believer that everything in your closet has to be versatile or well used. I do think there is a time and place for occasion wear, and I definitely am not of the belief that if you haven't worn something in X amount of time, it's worth getting rid of. Perhaps if something doesn't fit or you don't love it, then it is worth selling or donating, but if it's just a beautiful dress that isn't appropriate for anything other than a formal event, hold on to it! These items can bring so much joy.

That said, occasion pieces should be taking up a smaller portion of your closet and "everyday clothes" should make up the bulk. By taking a real look at your lifestyle and the clothes that fit it, it should be easy to see if you closet aligns or doesn't. For example, I like to be comfortable, but I'm not a gym bro. I have a professional job, but I don't meet with clients or go to court on a regular basis. My idea of a fun time out is brunch or mini-golf, not clubbing or concerts. I also live in a climate with four distinct seasons. And lastly I'm 27, not 15 and certainly not 40. All these factors go into what my closet should mostly consist of. Even though you may have the closet space to acquire more items, do so mindfully.
